A young man in his late 20s, identified only as Sammy, stabbed his girlfriend to death and poisoned himself in an attempt to commit suicide.
The 26-year-old victim, identified as Mabel Asantewaa, lived with the suspect in her apartment at Chinese Down, a suburb in the Ga South Municipality.
According to information gathered, the suspect, who is currently battling for his life, stabbed the victim multiple times in the neck with a knife on Wednesday, September 10, leading to her death, before drinking a substance believed to be poison.
A next-door neighbour said around 0200 hours on last Wednesday, they heard screams and calls for help from the apartment.
An eyewitness narrated that upon entering the room, the victim was found naked in a pool of blood, with her underwear partially removed and stained with menstrual blood, while palm oil was found near the suspect, who was gasping for breath.
The suspect was reported to have called a friend earlier and informed him about the incident after ingesting the substance.
Information gathered indicated that the victim, a fashion designer, and the suspect, a carpenter, had shown no signs of conflict in their relationship before the incident.
The Weija Divisional Police Command arrived at the scene and conveyed the remains of the deceased to the morgue for autopsy and further investigations, while the suspect was rushed to the Kasoa Polyclinic, where he is receiving treatment.
