Songstress Gyakie was billed to perform at Sarkodie’s Rapperholic Homecoming concert held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on 27th September 2025, but she could not mount the stage.
Explaining the situation on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with Kwame Dadzie, the event organiser Nabil Alhassan said the weather affected the programme’s flow and performance schedule.
“Gyakie was supposed to perform before Sarkodie would come on. She was there but because of the rain. People were trying to find spaces to be before. When she came she went through hell before entering the stadium. Because I was there when she was entered the stadium,” he explained.
Nabil added that the change in plan became necessary after Sarkodie decided to proceed with his performance in spite of the hiccup.
“It would have been easier if Sarkodie had a record with her, because Sarkodie got tired and wanted to now start the show because everybody was looking forward to him. So we didn’t have time to tell who should perform at a particular time,” he said.
According to Nabil, Sarkodie began his set with songs that featured other artistes present at the event, which made it difficult to slot Gyakie in since the two have not yet collaborated.
“He doesn’t have any song with Gyakie so there was no window for us to place Gyakie. So that was what happened. If she has a record with Gyakie it would have been easier to slot her in,” he added.
The Rapperholic Homecoming concert, part of Sarkodie’s 2025 Rapperholic series, featured a star-studded line-up including Shatta Wale, Obrafuor, Reggie Rockstone, Kweku Smoke, Medikal and several others. Despite the rain causing logistical challenges, thousands of fans filled the stadium to witness one of the most anticipated shows in Ghana’s music calendar.
Some patrons had to brave the rain, while artistes struggled to make their way into the venue. Nonetheless, the night ended on a high note with electrifying performances and surprise guest appearances that kept the crowd cheering till the early hours.
