The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, is set to commission completed rural electrification projects in 13 communities within the Central Gonja District of the Savanna Region.
The ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, October 11, marks a significant milestone in government’s efforts to expand electricity access and improve the lives of rural dwellers.
The beneficiary communities include Zomlampe, Nikpegu, Torope, Dokope, Kpatinyan, Darivogupe, Bagpe, Dawunipe, Diwurupe, Larigbani, Mammudupe, Sankaupe and Nyinyape.
The projects fall under the National Electrification Scheme, which aims to provide reliable and affordable energy to underserved areas, thereby fostering inclusive development across the country.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, Mr. Jinapor reaffirmed government’s determination to ensure that no community is left behind in Ghana’s energy transformation agenda.
“Electricity is not just about lighting homes; it is about powering opportunity, driving enterprise, and transforming lives,” he said.
“Through projects like this, we are delivering on our promise to make energy the bedrock of Ghana’s green and inclusive development.”
The commissioning event is expected to attract traditional authorities, opinion leaders, officials of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), the Central Gonja District Assembly, and residents of the beneficiary communities.
It will provide a platform to highlight the socio-economic benefits of rural electrification, including improved education, healthcare, and local enterprise.
The Ministry emphasised that expanding access to energy remains a top priority, particularly for rural and hard-to-reach areas.
It noted that the extension of electricity to these 13 communities is part of a broader government agenda to accelerate Ghana’s transition to a modern, green and inclusive economy, with energy serving as a catalyst for growth and social progress.
