The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has inaugurated the Governing Board of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, charging members to serve with integrity, confidentiality, and commitment in fulfilling their mandate.
Administering the oath of office and secrecy in accordance with the Ghana Medical Trust Fund Act, 2025, the Minister said there was a need for the board to ensure transparency and accountability in managing the fund.

He expressed concern over the increasing prevalence of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), which account for about 43 to 45 per cent of deaths nationwide, and urged a coordinated national response to curb the trend.
Mr Akandoh explained that the Ghana Medical Trust Fund was established to promote equity in the distribution of specialists, diagnostic services, and health resources across the country.

He noted that the fund would also support the training of health professionals, improve infrastructure, and strengthen accountability within the health sector.
“I am confident that under the capable leadership of Mr Tony Lithur and the collective expertise of the new Board, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund will make a lasting impact on our nation’s health system,” the Minister stated.

In his response, the Board Chairman, Mr Tony Lithur, pledged that the team would work diligently to advance equitable access to quality healthcare for all Ghanaians.
