A member of the campaign team for New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, has revealed that the Volta Region will host the Ministry of Tourism if Mr. Agyapong becomes President of Ghana.
Kwasi Kwarteng, who made the announcement on the JoyNews AM Show on Monday, said the plan forms part of Mr. Agyapong’s broader decentralisation policy aimed at distributing government institutions across all 16 regions.
He explained that the initiative seeks to bring governance closer to the people, create jobs, and decongest the capital city, Accra.
According to him, “For tourism, may also have to be situated in the Volta region," he said, adding that "If you are looking at Fisheries Ministry, you may be looking at Central region, if we are looking at food and agriculture, with the arable lands in the Northern part of Ghana, we will concentrate it there, if we are looking at Energy Ministry, Western region, we are already mining oil there, so we may also take advantage of that."

The Volta Region is one of the country’s most scenic areas, known for its natural and cultural attractions, including the Wli Waterfalls — the highest in West Africa — Mount Afadjato, Ghana’s tallest mountain, and the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, a community-based ecotourism site.
The region also boasts the Keta Lagoon, a Ramsar wetland site rich in birdlife, and historical landmarks such as Fort Prinzenstein in Keta.
Mr. Kwarteng said situating the Ministry of Tourism in the Volta Region would not only harness these attractions but also stimulate regional development through infrastructure upgrades, increased investment, and job creation.
The NPP is expected to hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, to elect a flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections.
