Fire ravaged several shops at Kantamanto’s Tazani Lane near Ecobank in Accra in the early hours of Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the distress call came in at about 1:31 a.m., prompting an immediate response from multiple fire stations across the capital.
The first fire appliance reportedly arrived at the scene at 1:42 a.m., and firefighting teams battled the blaze for more than three hours before bringing it under control.
The fire was finally confined around 4:49 a.m. after what officials described as “intensive firefighting operations.”
Acting Chief Fire Officer , together with the Director of Operations and the Greater Accra Regional Commander, visited the scene to assess the extent of the damage and coordinate ongoing response efforts.
No injuries have been reported so far, though property losses are expected to be significant given the commercial nature of the area.
The GNFS says a full investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire.
Kantamanto, one of Accra’s busiest trading hubs, has a history of devastating fire outbreaks that have displaced traders and destroyed millions of cedis’ worth of goods.
More details are expected as the GNFS completes its assessment.
