The Electricity Company of Ghana has embarked on a comprehensive maintenance to correct key transmission lines.

The exercise, undertaken by the company’s Ashanti Sub-Transmission, forms part of ECG’s core mandate to restore the power system to its original integrity and ensure optimum performance of its transmission assets.

The power company aims to minimize unplanned outages and enhance the overall stability of supply in the region as it addresses abnormalities and technical weaknesses along the lines.

Managing Director of ECG, Ing. Kwame Kpekpena, at a recent working visit to the Ashanti Region, tasked the team to intensify maintenance and reliability-focused interventions that will guarantee uninterrupted and quality power delivery to customers.

The defect correction activities included tightening loose fittings, replacing damaged insulators, clearing vegetation along the right-of-way, and rectifying conductor sags identified during line patrols. These corrective works not only enhance the mechanical strength of the network but also prevent possible flashovers, tripping, and system losses.

Speaking on the exercise, Ing. James Mensah Yevunya, Network Maintenance Manager, Ashanti Sub T, noted that the intervention is part of a broader reliability improvement plan:

Our goal is to ensure that the transmission system operates safely and efficiently. By correcting these defects, we are restoring the integrity of our lines and securing the power backbone that feeds the region,” he said.

Beyond the technical outcomes, the exercise underscores ECG’s proactive commitment to preventive maintenance—a key factor in delivering consistent power to support Ashanti’s growing economic and industrial activities.
