A three-storey building under construction at the Roman Ridge Engineering Centre in Accra collapsed on Tuesday afternoon, leaving 14 workers injured.
The incident occurred between a 10-storey high-rise apartment and the Ghana Institute of Engineering at Roman Ridge. The project, reportedly undertaken by Fabrico Builders, came crashing down just after midday.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) received a distress call at 12:18 p.m., and a rescue team from the National Headquarters, led by ADO II Ankrah, arrived at the scene at 12:29 p.m.
According to a GNFS statement, all 14 affected persons — all male — had been rescued before the arrival of the emergency team and were rushed to the 37 Military Hospital and the Ridge Hospital for treatment.
Eyewitnesses reported that the victims sustained various degrees of injuries, but no fatalities had been recorded at the time of the report.
The cause of the collapse remains unknown. The GNFS said investigations are underway to determine the circumstances that led to the structural failure.
The site manager has been instructed to suspend all construction activities until investigations are concluded and safety compliance is assured.
The Ghana National Fire Service assured that further updates would be provided as more information becomes available.
