Japan Motors Trading Company Ltd. (JMTC) has officially launched the Geely Cityray, the latest addition to Geely’s “Ray” SUV family.
Built on Geely’s advanced BMA platform, the Cityray bridges the agility of the Coolray with the sophistication of the Starray, offering a refined yet powerful SUV designed for both urban and adventurous lifestyles.
Positioned between the two models, it completes Geely’s strong SUV lineup and reinforces its reputation as a top-performing brand in its segment.
Dynamic Design and Advanced Engineering
The Cityray features a bold exterior with dual exhaust pipes, a driver-focused central control unit, and a 1.5TD engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, delivering 174 horsepower and 290Nm of torque for an engaging and efficient drive.
Speaking at the launch event, Mr Amine Kabbara, General Manager of Sales and Marketing at Japan Motors, stated: “The Cityray perfectly captures Geely’s spirit of innovation. Built on the independent B-segment platform, it delivers an ideal balance of performance, efficiency, and modern design that reflects the energy of today’s urban drivers.
"We are confident it will be well received in the Ghanaian market. To further demonstrate our confidence in Cityray’s quality and durability, Japan Motors is proud to introduce an unprecedented industry-first warranty — 6 years or 200,000 kilometres, setting a new benchmark for customer assurance and peace of mind.
Mr Kabbara further revealed Japan Motors’ plans.
“This launch marks another milestone in our partnership with Geely. Customers can look forward to the introduction of hybrid and electric models in the near future as we move towards a more sustainable future.”
Safety and Comfort at the Core
Mensah Adu Boateng, Geely Sales Manager at Japan Motors, highlighted the model’s commitment to safety and driver assistance technologies.
The Cityray comes equipped with ABS, EBD, BA, TCS, ESP®, Hill-start Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and L2 Driver Assistance, along with multiple airbags, Topview Surround Vision, and Transparent Chassis Monitoring for enhanced driver confidence.
Inside, the Cityray provides premium comfort with features such as one-touch electric windows with pinch protection, remote window and sunroof operation, keyless entry with push-button start, rear air-conditioning vents, CN95 antivirus air filter, Electronic Parking Brake, and Auto Hold.
A Confident Step into the Future
Mabel Offei, Marketing Manager at Japan Motors, expressed optimism about the Geely Cityray’s prospects: “The Geely Cityray is more than a new SUV as it represents progress and innovation.
"The positive feedback from customers reflects the growing confidence in the Geely brand and Japan Motors’ commitment to redefining the automotive experience in Ghana.”
“The Cityray is now available for viewing and test drive at Japan Motors showroom in Accra”, she stated.
