MTN Ghana has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding customers and combating the growing threat of mobile money (MoMo) fraud in the country’s digital financial ecosystem.
Speaking at a Media and Stakeholders Forum in Elmina on Thursday, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of MTN Ghana, Mr Reuben Opata, stated that the company has intensified its efforts to prevent fraudulent activities and strengthen customer trust.
He explained that MTN has introduced several interventions in response to concerns raised by customers about MoMo-related scams. However, he noted that customers also play a critical role in safeguarding their accounts by remaining vigilant and following the company’s safety guidelines.
“MTN has intensified public education and sensitisation campaigns through initiatives such as ‘Shine Your Eye’, aimed at equipping customers with the awareness and vigilance needed to avoid falling victim to fraudsters,” Mr Opata stated.

Beyond fraud prevention, Mr Opata reaffirmed MTN Ghana’s commitment to enhancing service quality and expanding network connectivity nationwide. He disclosed that by 2026, the company plans to expand its coverage across the Central Region, with a particular focus on remote and underserved communities.
The MTN Ghana Media and Stakeholders Forum, held annually, brings together journalists, digital influencers, and key partners to engage in open dialogue on the company’s operations, achievements, and strategic direction. The event underscores MTN’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and collaboration with stakeholders in advancing digital inclusion and customer experience across Ghana.
