The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohonu, has deployed hundreds of police personnel to the Ashanti Region as part of a special, classified security operation aimed at enhancing public safety and maintaining law and order.
The large-scale deployment is part of the Ghana Police Service’s renewed strategy to strengthen its presence in key areas across the region and ensure peace and stability amid rising security concerns.
Speaking on behalf of the IGP, the Director-General, Technical, COP Dr Sayibu Pabi Gariba, said the operation will be carried out in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces to maximise its impact.
“We are going to undertake a special operation in the region. The locations will be disclosed as we go. All the IGP wants you to do is to be professional, firm, and robust, and to ensure you execute your task as briefed. Move in groups—there shouldn’t be any isolation,” Dr Gariba instructed during a pre-deployment briefing.
He further urged officers to conduct themselves with discipline and teamwork, emphasising that operational integrity and coordination were critical to the mission’s success.
Dr. Gariba also cautioned officers against sharing operational details with the public, describing the exercise as a “classified” mission.
“This operation is very classified, so no personnel is supposed to be seen taking videos, pictures, or sending WhatsApp messages about what is going on. No one is expected to place a phone call disclosing locations or details of the operation,” he warned.
The Ghana Police Service has in recent months intensified security operations across several regions, focusing on crime hotspots and flashpoints, particularly in the lead-up to the festive season.
