The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into an alleged viral video showing a man administering a substance suspected to be a cigarette to a young child.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the Police confirmed that every effort is being made to identify and apprehend the suspect, while ensuring the child’s safety.
“We are working urgently to locate the individual involved and to make certain that the child is safe and protected,” the statement read.
The public has been urged to assist the investigation. The Police called on anyone with information regarding the identity or whereabouts of the man or the child to report immediately to the nearest police station.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to protecting children and bringing perpetrators of child abuse to justice.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has condemned the act, describing it as “abusive and a clear violation of the child’s rights and dignity."
