Dr Gideon Boako, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano North, has criticised the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the newly announced electricity tariff increments, arguing that the increases place additional strain on already burdened consumers.
In a post on his social media platforms on Wednesday, December 3, he contrasted the latest adjustments with the record of the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
According to Dr Boako, under the previous NPP government, electricity tariffs were managed in a way that prioritised relief for households and businesses.
He highlighted that in 2017, the first year of the NPP administration, there was no increase in electricity tariffs—an approach he said demonstrated the party’s commitment to easing financial pressure on Ghanaians.
The Tano North legislator went on to emphasise that in 2018, the NPP’s second year in office, electricity tariffs were further reduced by 17.5 per cent.
He presented this reduction as clear evidence of the former government’s resolve to make power more affordable and to support economic activity at a time when energy costs were a persistent concern.
