President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned the National Signals Bureau’s new Volta Regional Command in Ho, stressing that strong intelligence systems are essential to the country’s security and development.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President said intelligence gathering remains central to national stability. He noted that “security is the foundation of development and intelligence is the backbone of security,” adding that the government will continue to strengthen both intelligence and security institutions.
President Mahama highlighted the growing role of technology in national security, explaining that artificial intelligence and cybersecurity now form an important part of modern intelligence work.

He said the expansion of the National Signals Bureau across the country is key to improving national surveillance and protecting Ghana’s digital and cyber space.
The newly commissioned Regional Command will serve as the main centre for intelligence and security coordination in the Volta Region. It is fitted with advanced technology and linked to both regional and national surveillance systems to support real-time monitoring and response.

Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, praised the government’s investments in national security. He announced that four additional regional commands of the National Signals Bureau will become operational before the end of the year.
President Mahama later joined the 2025 National Farmers’ Day celebrations in Ho, where he was accompanied by the Minister for the Interior and other government officials.
