Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Legal and Communication Committee, Victor Kwadjoga Adawudu, has called for firm sanctions against Members of Parliament who engage in disorderly behaviour, warning that repeated incidents of chaos are undermining the authority of the legislature.

His comments come amid chaos in Parliament on Tuesday, when members of the Minority Caucus abandoned their seats and surged to the centre of the chamber, triggering a brief scuffle that brought proceedings to a halt.

The disruption followed heated exchanges over the declaration of the Kpandai parliamentary seat as vacant—a decision the Minority insists is unlawful and procedurally flawed.

Speaking on Joy News’ Newsfile on Saturday, Mr Adawudu said Parliament must take decisive action to discipline MPs who flout its rules.

“There should be some form of punishment or sanctions, because it is becoming too much,” he stated. “We have seen this in our Parliament, and if Members of Parliament are sanctioned for displaying some unparliamentary behaviour, I believe that this will come to an end.”

Mr Adawudu emphasised that Parliament, as the nation’s highest law-making body, must uphold discipline and decorum to maintain public confidence and institutional credibility.

He argued that strict enforcement of sanctions would restore order and reinforce respect for parliamentary authority.
