The Accra Circuit Court Three has granted GH¢200,000 bail with two sureties to a 26‑year‑old corn miller who allegedly plotted to burn shops at the Kantamanto Market.
The Court, presided over by Mrs Susanna Eduful, ordered that the sureties must be the accused’s immediate family members and must each earn not less than GH¢1,500 a month.
Kwame Asare, the accused, pleaded not guilty to preparation to commit crime: causing unlawful damage.
He is expected to reappear on January 27, 2026.
Police Chief Inspector Ebenezer Teye‑Okuffo told the Court that the complainants were National Security personnel.
He said Asare, a corn miller at Kantamanto, was arrested on December 9, by a team led by Simon Nyala and handed over to the Regional Police Command after intelligence suggested he was planning to burn shops in the market.
During investigations, Asare reportedly stated that some individuals in the market were “worrying him”, leading him to decide to burn their shops.
Chief Inspector Teye‑Okuffo said a search of the accused’s room in the market uncovered a gallon containing several litres of petrol, which was retrieved.
He said Asare was subsequently charged and brought before the Court, adding that investigations were ongoing.
