Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has revealed that dancehall star Shatta Wale is one of the people that encourage him to explore singing more on his records, even though he prefers to use it sparingly.
Speaking to Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio on Hitz FM, Sarkodie said he has several unreleased songs that are purely melodic.
Explaining further on the Daybreak Hitz morning show on December 22, 2025, the rapper said Shatta Wale has consistently urged him to take that direction.
“One person who pushes me to do more [singing] is Shatta Wale. When I did this one I sent it to him. Not only that there are about three of such songs I have recorded; one I sang throughout. But I was very uncomfortable with it because I will write it but putting it out is difficult for me to do. And that he said no, this is the next phase you should do,” Sarkodie said.
Sarkodie, one of Ghana’s top rappers who has proven his mettle on international platforms such as the BET Awards and BET Hip Hop Awards, has occasionally ventured into singing and melodic rap.
However, music fans are yet to hear him deliver a full body of work driven entirely by singing.
If he does, it could further demonstrate his versatility and attract a different set of fans.
Sarkodie and Shatta Wale have enjoyed a cordial relationship since reconciling their differences, publicly showing appreciation for each other’s work in recent times.
