The Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) has flatly denied claims that the government plans to award bauxite concessions in Nyinahin to businessman Ibrahim Mahama, describing the publication as false.
In a statement issued on Monday, GIADEC said it had taken note of the report but stressed that “no such plan exists.”
“GIADEC unequivocally refutes this allegation and states for the avoidance of doubt that no such plan exists,” the Corporation said.
The statement explained that under the vision of President John Dramani Mahama to reposition Ghana to fully benefit from its natural resources, executive approval was granted for GIADEC to hold leases over all known bauxite reserves in the country. According to GIADEC, this move was intended to give the Corporation “a strong footing to carry out its mandate and to attract the right investments and partnerships for the sector.”
GIADEC disclosed that, in line with this approval, it obtained six mining leases over bauxite concessions, including those at Nyinahin, in June 2025. “These leases are currently before Parliament for ratification,” the statement noted.
The Corporation further emphasized that under the government’s new policy framework, bauxite concessions will remain under GIADEC’s control.
“Bauxite concessions shall remain with GIADEC as the leaseholder and efforts are under way to ensure that this remains the case even long after the President’s tenure ends,” it said.
GIADEC cautioned the public against misinformation, stating that “any publication suggesting that the Government plans to grant bauxite concessions to any individual is false and should be treated as such.”
The statement was signed by Priscilla Hemans, Public Affairs and Communications Manager, on behalf of GIADEC’s management.
