A Minerals Commission Board member, Nana Adwoa Foriwah, has cautioned Blue Water Guards to reject bribes from galamsey operators and focus on their duties.
The admonition came during a visit to New Edubiase in the Ashanti Region, where the Adansi South District Chief Executive (DCE) and the Minerals Commission Board member welcomed the Ghana Blue Water Guards.
Speaking to Adom News' correspondent Isaac K. Normanyo, Nana Adwoa Foriwah said the president had entrusted her with this mandate, and she is determined to justify that confidence.
She stressed that the district would continue to protect forest reserves and water bodies from galamsey activities.
Mrs Foriwah also assured the water guards that if they perform their duties with the interests of the district and the nation in mind, their commitment would be recognised and rewarded.
Meanwhile, DCE of Adansi South, Oheneba Kwabena Ando, highlighted that rivers such as the Offin, Anum, and Pra have been heavily polluted.
He urged the Blue Water Guards to remain steadfast in their mandate and noted that the district’s rich gold deposits continue to attract illegal miners.
