Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Communications Director for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, has criticised the John Mahama-led NDC government’s recent economic achievements, arguing that they benefit the wealthy while leaving ordinary Ghanaians behind.
Speaking on Badwam on Adom TV, Mr Aboagye said, “You hear government officials celebrating falling fuel prices and inflation, but the ordinary Ghanaian does not feel it. These so-called gains are cosmetic and mostly benefit the rich.”
He highlighted that public transport users, who make up the majority, have not felt relief despite lower fuel costs. “If fuel prices have gone down, why are transport fares still the same? The truth is that only people who own private cars are benefiting from cheaper fuel. The market woman, the student, and the worker who uses a 'trotro' [Commercial bus] every day are not seeing any difference,” he said.
Mr Aboagye further criticised rising electricity tariffs, which he said push up the cost of locally produced goods. “How do you expect prices to come down when electricity tariffs have gone up by about 28 per cent? Manufacturers and small businesses are struggling, and these costs are passed on to consumers,” he added.
He also noted that imported goods, despite currency stability, continue to rise in price due to increasing energy costs, leaving most Ghanaians still struggling to make ends meet.
