The Volta Regional Police Command has intercepted 26 sacks of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in a major intelligence-led operation in Ho, the Volta regional capital.
The seizure followed information received on 23rd January 2026 that a Ghana Health Service's white American Ford Wagon had been loaded with suspected narcotics from Dzolokpuita and was heading towards Ho.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, a joint team from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU), the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) and the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) mounted surveillance and pursued the vehicle after the driver ignored signals to stop at the Ziave Police Checkpoint.
The vehicle was eventually intercepted near Tarso Hotel in Ho after what police described as a “hot chase”.
A search conducted in the presence of the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Godsway Kwaku Dogbey, an employee of the Ghana Health Service Directorate in Ho, uncovered 26 maxi sacks containing 2,045 yellow oval-shaped wrapped compressed leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The consignment is estimated to have a street value of GH¢1,022,500.

Confirming the operation, the Volta Regional Police Command said the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking in the region.
“This successful interception demonstrates our commitment to disrupting drug trafficking networks and protecting communities from the harmful effects of narcotics,” Chief Inspector Francis Kwaku Gomado, Head of Public Affairs Unit in the Volta Region, noted.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while arrangements are being made for the exhibits to be forwarded to the Forensic Laboratory for scientific analysis.
The Police Command assured the public of intensified surveillance and sustained operations to combat narcotic-related crimes across the region.
Meanwhile, the Volta Regional Health Directorate has confirmed the arrest of the suspect and noted that, he is a driver with the Directorate.
