An Adenta Circuit Court has sentenced a 27‑year‑old Nigerian to seven years’ imprisonment for defiling a 13‑year‑old girl at Nanakrom, near Adenta.
Ambrose Clinton, a mason, was charged with defilement and pleaded not guilty.
The court presided over by Angela Attachie, at the end of the trial, found him guilty and convicted him accordingly.
Clinton’s sentence will run from the day of his arrest. He had been on remand after failing to meet bail conditions granted by the court.
The trial judge advised parents to closely supervise their children.
The court said the medical report indicated that the victim’s hymen had been broken.
It said that the victim, in her evidence, stated that each time Clinton defiled her, he gave her GH¢10.
The prosecution, led by Chief Superintendent of Police Patience Mario, said the complainant is a 52‑year‑old food vendor at Nanakrom who lives with the victim, a class six pupil.
Investigations established that on July 10, 2024, around 1500 hours, the complainant detected that the victim had left the house unannounced.
The complainant and the victim’s mother, name withheld, began searching for her.
While searching, they met the victim by the roadside heading home.
When questioned, she said she was returning from Clinton’s house.
The prosecution said the victim indicated that she had sneaked to Clinton’s house at night, where he had sexual intercourse with her.
Investigations revealed that about three months earlier, Clinton lured the victim into his house and had sexual intercourse with her, after which he continued the act.
On July 12, 2024, the complainant reported the matter to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Adenta.
A Police Medical report form was issued for the victim to be examined and treated at a government facility.
Clinton was later arrested and cautioned.
