Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, a flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed optimism about securing victory.
He said that although there is a common political caution about fearing delegates, he is hopeful that the principle of reciprocity will guide the outcome of the polls.
He explained that he has given his best for the party and its delegates, and he remains optimistic that they will recognise his contributions and vote for him in return.
"Even though Sir John has admonished us to fear delegates, I can connect with these delegates. They are my own, and I have served them well, and I hope they will also reciprocate by saying we thank you for your service to our constituency and as you aspire to move up, we want to support you," he told journalists this after casting his vote in the Bosomtwe constituency in the Ashanti Region, just hours after the polls opened.
"By the grace of God, everything is in the hands of God. I have done what human beings can do," he added.
A total of 211,849 delegates of the NPP are expected to cast their ballots in the race on Saturday, 31 January, with the delegate strength spread across all sixteen regions of the country.
