Flagbearer aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyepong, has called on fellow candidates and their supporters to maintain decorum and avoid personal attacks as delegates cast their votes in Saturday’s presidential primary.
Addressing the media at the party headquarters on January 31, 2026, the former General Secretary warned that excessive hostility could damage the NPP’s unity and tarnish its public image.
“I think that some red lines have been crossed. There are five of us contesting. At the end of the day, only one person will be elected; five cannot go into one,” he said, urging all party actors to exercise restraint and respect in their interactions.
He stressed that the primaries should ultimately serve to select a candidate capable of uniting the party and presenting a credible choice to the wider Ghanaian electorate.
“After we win, we should be able to represent our party well to earn the respect and the confidence of the Ghanaian people,” Mr Agyepong noted.
Highlighting the potential risks of negative campaigning, he questioned how the party could effectively promote its chosen candidate if internal rivalries degenerated into personal vilification.
“If you have lambasted and said things that are unprintable about your fellow, how do we then go and sell the person?” he added.
