A senior figure on the campaign team of former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Hassan Tampuli, has described the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries as more demanding than the 2024 general elections.
According to the Member of Parliament for Gushegu, the internal contest was highly unpredictable and required constant vigilance and rapid responses from campaign operatives as events shifted quickly across constituencies.
Mr Tampuli explained that campaign teams were often forced to adjust their strategies on short notice, as political activity in one area could change dramatically once attention shifted elsewhere.
“I told some members of our team that I found this election even more challenging and tougher than the 2024 elections. The dynamics were very fluid; something happens one day, and another thing happens the next, and you have to keep reacting."
"You cannot take your foot off the pedal. The moment you leave a place, someone else moves in, and sometimes you realise areas you have already visited have been stirred up again, forcing you to move from your constituency to others,” he said while speaking on Channel One TV on Monday, February 2.
Dr Bawumia won the NPP presidential primaries decisively, with 110,643 votes (56.48 per cent), securing the party’s mandate to lead it into the 2028 general elections.
Kennedy Agyapong placed second with 46,554 votes, accounting for 23.76 per cent, while Dr Bryan Acheampong came third with 36,303 votes, or 18.53 per cent.
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong followed with 1,999 votes (1.02 per cent) and 402 votes (0.21 per cent) respectively.
