Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has arrived in Latvia for a two-day official visit to probe the circumstances surrounding the death of Ghanaian student Nana Agyei Ahyia.
In a Facebook post, the Minister said Latvia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Her Excellency Baiba Braže, has pledged full cooperation to ensure truth and justice are pursued.
Mr Ablakwa, who is leading a six-member delegation, said the visit honours a promise he made to Ghanaians to personally follow up on the student’s death.

The team includes senior directors from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a forensic expert, and a pathologist to assist with the investigations.
Two family members of the deceased, initially delayed due to visa processing issues, were able to obtain their visas on Sunday and are scheduled to join the delegation on Monday.

Addressing social media claims, Mr Ablakwa clarified that all family members and experts travelling with the delegation are fully funded by the Ministry.
He dismissed allegations of extortion and the issuance of fake tickets as baseless.

The delegation is expected to hold meetings on Monday with Latvia’s Ministries of Interior and Education, as well as with the investigators handling the case.
The mission aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding Nana Agyei Ahyia’s death and provide closure for his family.
