The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) has continued its mission to make specialised medical care accessible across Ghana, focusing this week on the Goaso Municipal Hospital in the Ahafo Region.
The visit forms part of the Fund’s broader strategy to partner with regional hospitals, ensuring that patients in rural and underserved communities can receive life-saving care without travelling long distances.
The assessment follows a recent visit to Sefwi-Wiawso Government Hospital in the Western North Region, where the GMTF team began evaluating the readiness of hospitals outside major urban centres.

By expanding its focus to newly created and underserved regions, the Fund aims to reduce the concentration of specialist services in larger cities and improve equitable healthcare delivery nationwide.
Leading the team, Health Policy Advisor Dr. Norbert Kipo engaged directly with hospital management and clinicians at Goaso Municipal Hospital to understand the facility’s operational gaps.
Discussions centred on staffing, infrastructure, and patient management systems, providing the Fund with essential insight into the hospital’s current capacity to treat patients with chronic non-communicable diseases.

The needs assessment also examined the hospital’s equipment and resource requirements to support the delivery of specialised care.
“These engagements allow us to see first-hand where support is needed most and how we can strengthen hospitals to meet the growing healthcare demands in the region,” Dr. Kipo noted.
GMTF’s ongoing field visits are part of a nationwide effort to ensure that no Ghanaian is left without access to critical healthcare services.
The Fund plans to use findings from these assessments to guide investments and interventions that will enhance patient care, expand service delivery, and improve the overall capacity of regional hospitals across the country.
