Leo-Nelson Adzidogah, a former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) for Akatsi South, has renewed a petition to President John Dramani Mahama, urging the government to release end-of-service benefits owed to former MMDCEs.
In a letter dated February 16, 2026, Adzidogah described the delay in payment as “increasingly worrying,” noting that many former officials are struggling financially after dedicating years of service to the nation without engaging in other employment.
“Mr President, we devoted those years to serve our country and therefore engaged in no other employment to earn income to serve our families,” he stated in the petition, emphasising the humanitarian nature of their request.
The letter references an earlier petition submitted on December 15, 2025, and a response received from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs on January 13, 2026, which outlined steps taken so far regarding the payment of the benefits. Adzidogah and his colleagues, however, say there has been no positive action since.
The former MMDCEs urged President Mahama to consider their plea, pointing out that a similar process was honoured in 2017 by former President Nana Akufo-Addo, who approved payments to MMDCEs from Mahama’s first term. “We are motivated by the fact that we all served and are serving mother Ghana and deserve this legitimate due,” the letter stated.
Copies of the petition were also sent to the Office of the Chief of Staff and the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
