The government has indicated that it is prepared to commence the enrolment of prospective homeowners into newly developed housing units under the National Homeownership Fund (NHF).
The move is part of a wider policy drive to improve access to affordable accommodation and tackle the country’s housing deficit, particularly among low- and middle-income earners who face difficulties in securing decent homes.
The Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, disclosed this following an inspection tour of ongoing housing developments at Shai Hills and Tema Community 22 on Monday, March 2, 2026.
He explained that the projects are nearing completion and are specifically designed to benefit working-class Ghanaians.
According to the Minister, construction works on the units are between 95 and 98 per cent complete, paving the way for agreements to be signed with prospective occupants.
“The houses are almost completed, so we can begin engaging interested applicants,” he said. “They may either opt for a rent-to-own arrangement or be supported by the NHF to access mortgage packages that have been structured in collaboration with partner banks.”
Mr Adjei further noted that the Fund has entered into partnerships with financial institutions to offer flexible and accessible mortgage schemes, aimed at making homeownership a realistic option for more Ghanaians.
