Walid Regragui has left his role as head coach of the Morocco national football team with immediate effect.
The decision comes just months before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, throwing the North African side into an unexpected transition period as preparations intensify for the global showpiece.
Sources indicate that the Moroccan Football Federation has already identified a potential successor, with Mohamed Ouahbi emerging as the favourite to take over the vacant position.
An official announcement is expected to be made during a press conference scheduled for tonight, where further details surrounding the departure and the federation’s plans moving forward will be clarified.
Regragui’s exit marks a significant moment for Moroccan football, particularly given the timing of the decision so close to the World Cup.
Attention will now turn to how swiftly a new manager can steady the ship and maintain momentum ahead of the tournament.
