The Ministry of Health has set up an investigation committee to probe the circumstances surrounding the death of a 29-year-old engineer, Charles Amissah, following allegations that he was denied emergency medical care at several health facilities in Accra.
In a statement issued by the ministry, the committee has been tasked with examining the events leading to Mr Amissah’s death after he reportedly suffered injuries in a hit-and-run accident on February 6, 2026.
The ministry said it has received reports alleging that the victim was denied emergency admission and treatment at the Police Hospital (Accra), Ridge Hospital (Greater Accra Regional Hospital) and the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
According to the notice, the incident has raised significant public concern about the delivery of emergency healthcare services in Ghana.
“The committee is committed to uncovering the facts and recommending improvements to strengthen emergency care nationwide,” the statement read.
As part of the investigation, the ministry is inviting the public, healthcare professionals, eyewitnesses and civil society organisations to submit written inputs, testimonies or any relevant information relating to emergency healthcare experiences.
The Ministry of Health said all submissions must be received by March 11, 2026.
The statement added that public participation will play a crucial role in helping authorities ensure that emergency healthcare in Ghana is responsive, accessible and effective.
