The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has revealed that more than 2,000 kilometres of roads across all 16 regions are currently undergoing significant rehabilitation and expansion under the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme.
Addressing Parliament on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, Mr Agbodza stated that the administration of John Dramani Mahama remains committed to delivering road projects, stressing that none have been abandoned or discontinued without valid justification.
He disclosed that Parliament has approved close to GH¢50 billion to fund the multi-year road and bridge initiative, describing it as a strong endorsement of government’s infrastructure agenda.
“As I speak, over 2,000 kilometres of roads across all 16 regions are undergoing extensive transformation. We have all, at various times, expressed concern about the state of our roads, especially considering the significant resources invested,” he said.
The Minister also highlighted efforts to address legacy debts within the sector, noting that more than GH¢11 billion has been paid to clear outstanding arrears out of an inherited debt exceeding GH¢40 billion.
“This represents the largest arrears clearance within such a short period in our history. It would therefore be misleading for anyone to suggest that the Ministry relies solely on sole-sourcing for procurement,” he added.
Mr Agbodza further encouraged citizens to take an active role in monitoring projects within their communities to enhance transparency and accountability, while welcoming constructive public feedback to improve delivery.
