The Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Alhassan Suhuyini, has cautioned against the rush to label government actions as scandals, urging the public to rely on evidence rather than speculation.

The Member of Parliament for Tamale North made the remarks on TV3 Ghana on Saturday, 28 March, noting that while controversies may arise in any administration, they should not be manufactured.

“There is no way this government can survive four years without a scandal, but let us not force one when there isn’t one,” he stated.

His comments follow a report by The Fourth Estate, which raised concerns over procurement processes in the roads sector, citing extensive use of sole sourcing and possible cost inflation.

The report alleged that the Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, oversaw 81 sole-sourced contracts valued at more than GH¢73 billion within seven months.

In response, Mr Agbodza has maintained that the claims require proper context, indicating that only 44 per cent of major contracts under the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme were awarded through sole sourcing.

Mr Suhuyini called for a measured assessment of such findings, stressing the need for fairness and accuracy in public discourse.
