The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) has developed climate vulnerability maps and a risk analysis toolkit to guide climate adaptation interventions and investments for maize and cassava in Ghana's agriculture sector.
Presenting the Vulnerability Maps and Climate Change Risk Analysis Toolkit at a validation workshop aimed at informing investment decisions by stakeholders and promoting evidence-based planning for climate-smart agriculture, the Country Director for AGRA in Ghana, Dr Betty Simawua Annan, said there was a need to integrate gender-responsive measures into adaptation planning.

"To ensure a holistic approach, we are integrating gender-responsive measures into the adaptation planning," she said.
She said the toolkit is expected to strengthen responses to climate change and promote climate-smart agriculture planning and investment decisions.
"There is a need to strengthen coordination and climate risk governance at all levels, and we envisage that the high-resolution climate risk and vulnerability maps developed will promote evidence-based support for climate-smart agriculture planning and investment decisions," Dr Simawua Annan added.

She said AGRA is in discussions with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) to anchor the work with the National Climate Change Taskforce for integration into national policy planning and continuous updates.
The Country Director added that a brochure on vulnerability and gender inequality has been developed to help turn climate change data into inclusive action, and that a draft policy brief is available for stakeholder feedback.

"We would kindly request that you provide critical inputs and objective feedback and make this session as interactive as possible. The inputs will be incorporated into the final work to ensure efficient use of the toolkit," she said.
She thanked the consultants supporting the dissemination of the climate vulnerability tool and her team for their efforts.
