The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman for Nkwanta South, Samuel Yaw Larrey, says the party will engage the Nkwanta South Divisional Police Command to seek a temporary adjustment of curfew hours to facilitate the smooth collation of results during the party’s constituency executive elections.

Mr Larrey disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), saying the move formed part of measures being pursued by the constituency leadership to ensure the safety of delegates, electoral officials and party members, while complying with existing security arrangements in the municipality.

He said he and the Constituency Secretary were scheduled to meet the Nkwanta South Divisional Police Commander at 1400 hours on Wednesday to formally present the party’s request for a temporary extension of the curfew period should the election process and collation of results extend into the evening.

Mr Larrey expressed confidence that the security authorities would give due consideration to the request in the interest of ensuring a peaceful, orderly and credible electoral process.

He said the party remained committed to working closely with the security agencies and would comply with all directives issued regarding the conduct of the elections.

The chairman also announced a change of venue for Saturday’s constituency executive elections from its traditional location to the Nkwanta JHS ‘A’ Park.

He explained that the decision was taken after a careful assessment of the prevailing security situation, noting that the former venue was located in an area that had experienced recurring disturbances in recent times.

Mr Larrey expressed optimism that the new venue would provide a safer and more convenient environment for delegates to exercise their franchise peacefully.

He appealed to all aspirants, delegates and supporters to conduct themselves responsibly, respect the electoral rules and cooperate with the security agencies to ensure a successful election.
