The government has approved the rehabilitation of roads within Achimota School and renewed its commitment to protecting the institution’s lands as part of measures to preserve its legacy ahead of its 100th anniversary celebrations.

The announcement was made by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, during the Achimota Centenary Fundraising Dinner, Fashion Gala and the launch of the school’s centenary commemorative cloth.

Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, Mr. Debrah said the government would collaborate with the Old Achimotan Association and the school’s management to address key infrastructure needs while ensuring that Achimota’s lands and heritage are protected for future generations.

“I am pleased to announce that approval has been granted for works to improve the road network within the school, alongside other interventions aimed at strengthening the learning environment and preserving the proud legacy of this great institution,” he said.

The Chief of Staff described Achimota School as one of Ghana’s most significant educational institutions, highlighting its contribution to producing generations of leaders, professionals, innovators, creatives and public servants who have impacted Ghana, Africa and the world.

He stressed that the government’s support goes beyond infrastructure development, noting that preserving the school’s heritage and assets remains a key priority as Achimota transitions into its second century.

Mr. Debrah also urged Old Achimotans and other stakeholders to continue supporting the institution through investment and active involvement to ensure the continued growth and success of the school.

“The future of Achimota will depend on the continued commitment, generosity and active involvement of all who carry the spirit of the Black and Gold,” he added.

Established in 1927, Achimota School is one of Ghana’s leading second-cycle institutions and has over the years educated many prominent figures in politics, business, academia and other fields.
