President John Dramani Mahama has expressed sorrow over the death of His Royal Majesty Ya-Na Abukari II, describing the passing of the Overlord of Dagbon as a significant loss to both Dagbon and Ghana.
Receiving the Dagbon Traditional Council at the Presidency to formally announce the King's passing, President Mahama extended his condolences to the Royal Family, the chiefs and people of Dagbon, and all Ghanaians in mourning.

The President paid tribute to Ya-Na Abukari II's leadership, recalling their close collaboration in restoring peace to Dagbon and describing the late King as a father figure whose wisdom and guidance transcended political and social divides.

He praised the Ya-Na's pivotal role in transforming Dagbon from conflict into a model of reconciliation, unity and stability, while commending his commitment to peacebuilding, dialogue and strengthening traditional governance.

President Mahama also hailed the late Overlord as a respected national statesman and peacemaker whose humility and dedication to Ghana's unity earned widespread admiration. He assured the Dagbon Traditional Council of the Government's full support, including the provision of state honours, as preparations begin for the final funeral rites, and prayed for strength for the bereaved family and the nation.
