A domestic fire has destroyed the contents of a room and caused significant damage to parts of a residential property at Teshie Penny in the Ledzokuku Municipality, after a blaze broke out on the evening of July 29.

According to a post shared on Facebook by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the fire, which threatened to spread to neighbouring buildings in the densely populated community, was swiftly brought under control by firefighters from the Trade Fair Fire Station, preventing what authorities described as a potentially devastating incident.

The Service noted that the blaze completely gutted one room of the affected house, reducing all its contents to ashes.

Household items, furniture and other personal belongings inside the room were destroyed, leaving the occupants with considerable property losses.

In addition to the room that was completely consumed by the flames, the hall and kitchen of the house sustained partial fire and smoke damage. Although these sections remained standing, parts of the interior were affected by intense heat, smoke and firefighting operations.

Fortunately, the prompt arrival and rapid intervention of firefighters prevented the fire from engulfing the entire building.

Emergency crews worked efficiently to contain the blaze before it could extend beyond the affected sections of the house. Their efforts also stopped the flames from spreading to nearby residential buildings, where the risk of a larger community fire was high due to the close proximity of the structures.

The Ghana National Fire Service confirmed that firefighters successfully salvaged the remaining portions of the affected house, preserving much of the structure from complete destruction.

In addition, an adjoining self-contained apartment and a nearby five-bedroom house were protected from the advancing flames, sparing several families from what could have been extensive property losses and displacement.

The successful containment operation significantly reduced the overall impact of the incident and demonstrated the importance of rapid emergency response in limiting fire damage.

Despite the destruction caused to the property, no injuries or fatalities were recorded. All occupants were reported safe, with firefighters concentrating their efforts on extinguishing the blaze and protecting surrounding buildings.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established.

Fire investigators from the Ghana National Fire Service have commenced investigations to determine how the blaze started. Officials say the findings will help establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and guide future fire prevention measures.

Residents have been encouraged to regularly inspect electrical installations, avoid unsafe electrical connections, handle naked flames with care and ensure potential fire hazards are addressed promptly.

The Service also urged the public to report fire outbreaks immediately through the appropriate emergency channels, stressing that early reporting allows firefighters to respond quickly and minimise damage.
