Amid the bustle of passengers, buses and traders at the rain-soaked Madina transport station, three Telecel customers walked away with a combined GH¢90,000 in cash prizes as top winners of the first cycle of the Text2Win promo.
The Telecel Text2Win promo rewards subscribers who participate in the daily SMS trivia competition by answering questions and accumulating points throughout a six-month cycle.
Toufiq Ahmed Mustapha emerged as the overall winner, taking home GH¢50,000, with Sheriff Iddrisu Jackson receiving GH¢30,000 as first runner-up and Derrick Allotey Murphy winning GH¢10,000 for placing third.
The prize presentation marked the end of the first cycle of the promotion, which is run in partnership with the digital agency, Elcuto, under the regulatory supervision of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) through its Caritas platform.
Open to all Telecel Ghana customers, the promotion allows subscribers to participate by dialling *4063# and subscribing for 30 pesewas a day. Participants earn points by answering daily general knowledge questions sent via SMS, with the highest scorers winning cash prizes at the end of each six-month cycle.
Receiving his GH¢50,000 prize, Mustapha encouraged more customers to participate. "Text2Win is authentic, so everyone should activate by dialling *4063#.
It's just 30 pesewas to play. Answer the general knowledge questions, and you can win some of the money too.” Asked how he intended to spend his cash prize, he responded, "Investment kakra, chilling kakra."
Jackson, who won GH¢30,000, described himself as proof that the promotion delivers on its promise. "Everything about Text2Win is real. Activate, and you could win because I'm here as a living testimony. Partake and play the game and you are good to go," he said.
Derrick Allotey Murphy, winner of the GH¢10,000 prize, said the experience exceeded expectations.
"I feel good about winning this money. This promotion is real, and anyone can join and win GH¢10,000 like me," he said.
Throughout the first cycle from December 2025 to May 2026, Telecel Ghana also distributed weekly cash rewards to active participants, in addition to special seasonal rewards including Valentine’s and Mother’s Day experiences.
Propositions and Segment Manager at Telecel Ghana, Carlos Asare-Okoh, said the promotion was designed to create a rewarding and interactive experience for engaged customers, allowing them to win cash prizes.
“At Telecel, we are always looking for innovative ways to reward customer loyalty and engagement. We are upping the cash prizes for the second cycle to reward more winners, so I will encourage more people to subscribe and join the winning train,” he said.
Mr Asare-Okoh believes that the overwhelming participation in the first cycle of the promo signalled the growing appetite for interactive digital and value-added services among Ghanaian mobile users.
Speaking at the event, Ida Hans-Jorie, Marketing Officer at the National Lottery Authority, commended the transparency and structure of the Text2Win campaign.
"We can confirm the Text2Win promo is being conducted responsibly and in full compliance with regulatory standards. It's a fair competition and process," she said.
The second cycle of the Text2Win promotion is now underway and will run from June to November 2026, giving both new and existing Telecel customers another opportunity to win cash prizes by subscribing via *4063# and answering daily trivia questions.
Winners are determined based on the highest points accumulated during each six-month cycle.
