The Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Osman Ayariga, has appealed to the Christian Council of Ghana to play a leading role in restoring discipline, patriotism and moral values among young people across the country.

Delivering remarks during a National Youth Month event organised by the Council, he said the church possesses a unique influence that government alone cannot replicate.

Mr Ayariga observed that while government can formulate policies and create opportunities for young people, the responsibility of shaping conscience rests largely with families, faith-based organisations and educational institutions.

He said rebuilding the nation’s values requires a united effort from all stakeholders committed to youth development.

“I want to make a special appeal to the Christian Council. You have something government cannot replicate—pulpits in nearly every community, radio and television platforms, and a membership that reaches deep into homes across this country. Kindly use them. Preach discipline. Teach respect for authority and lawful process,” he urged.

Drawing inspiration from the Bible, the NYA CEO cited Proverbs’ instruction to “train up a child in the way he should go” and Hebrews’ teaching that discipline ultimately produces “a harvest of righteousness and peace.”

He explained that the objective was not punishment for its own sake but nurturing responsible leaders who could be entrusted with Ghana’s future.

Mr Ayariga reaffirmed the National Youth Authority’s commitment to empowering young people economically and socially but stressed that character must remain central to national development.

“Skills without character only go so far. Talent without integrity is a liability, not an asset,” he said, encouraging churches, parents, schools and government to work together in raising a generation that values integrity, service, dialogue and truth.
