A delegation of Catholic women has pledged its support for the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection’s efforts to promote gender equality and combat gender-based violence.

The delegation made the commitment when it paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, to discuss ways of strengthening collaboration in protecting women, children and vulnerable persons.

During the engagement, the Catholic women briefed the Minister on preparations for the 2026 World Union of Catholic Women's Organisations (WUCWO) Day Celebration and plans to launch the Coalition of Religious and Traditional Women Against Violence and Discrimination Against Women and Girls.

They said the coalition would mobilise faith-based and traditional women leaders to champion the rights, safety and well-being of women and girls, particularly in communities where religious and traditional institutions wield significant influence.

The delegation also highlighted the role of churches as important platforms for promoting peaceful coexistence and protecting vulnerable persons, noting that many people turn to faith-based institutions for guidance and support during difficult periods.

Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working with faith-based organisations to advance gender equality and strengthen efforts to prevent gender-based violence.

She said collaboration with religious and traditional institutions would be important in protecting women and girls, strengthening families and promoting safer and more supportive communities.
