KNUST Senior High School had a disappointing outing as they fell to St. Joseph Seminary SHS in a fiercely contested battle at the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) Preliminary Stage.
KNUST SHS started strongly, taking an early lead with 19 points, ahead of SDA SHS, Agona on 13 points and St. Joseph Seminary SHS on 9 points.
But the momentum quickly shifted in Round Two. St. Joseph Seminary SHS produced a remarkable turnaround, surging to 26 points while KNUST SHS slipped to 22 points, with SDA SHS, Agona on 14 points.
St. Joseph Seminary maintained their advantage in Round Three, extending their lead to 27 points, as KNUST SHS managed 23 points and SDA SHS, Agona 15 points.
Round Four saw St. Joseph Seminary SHS pull further away, posting 43 points against KNUST SHS’s 36 points, while SDA SHS, Agona had 25 points.
And when the final bell rang, there was no stopping the Seminary side.
St. Joseph Seminary SHS finished on 52 points to secure their passage to the One-Eighth Stage of the NSMQ 2026.
For KNUST SHS, it was heartbreak as they ended the contest on 39 points, while SDA SHS, Agona finished third with 28 points.
St. Joseph Seminary SHS’s comeback from an early deficit has earned them a place among the schools marching on in the competition, while KNUST SHS and SDA SHS, Agona, bow out of the 2026 NSMQ.
