It was a one-sided affair at the SMS Auditorium as St. John’s Grammar School delivered a dominant performance to dismantle St. Mary’s Seminary SHS and Zion College in Contest 26 of the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) preliminaries.
St. John’s Grammar immediately seized control in Round One, opening an eight-point lead over Zion College and an 18-point advantage over St. Mary’s Seminary.

The gap widened dramatically in Round Two as St. John’s Grammar continued to pile on the points while St. Mary’s Seminary struggled to respond.
The Problem of the Day provided another opportunity for St. John’s Grammar to flex its dominance. The school scored an impressive 9 out of 10, while Zion College managed 5 out of 10. St. Mary’s Seminary could not register a correct answer from its two attempts.
By the end of Round Three, St. John’s Grammar had stretched its lead to 30 points.

Zion College showed signs of a fightback in Round Four, adding 16 points to reduce the deficit, but St. John’s Grammar remained firmly in control.
There was little doubt about the winner heading into the finale, and St. John’s Grammar duly completed the job.
The school finished with a commanding 60 points, 24 points clear of Zion College, while St. Mary’s Seminary ended the contest on 15 points.

It was a difficult contest for the two schools, particularly St. Mary’s Seminary, as St. John’s Grammar turned the SMS Auditorium into a showcase of dominance and secured a convincing victory.
