National Chairmanship aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe, has announced an alliance with fellow aspirant John Boadu ahead of the party’s national executive elections in Kumasi.

In a signed statement issued on Saturday, October 3, Mr Crabbe said the alliance was aimed at promoting “unity of purpose” within the party and combining their experience in party management.

“John Boadu and I are jointly announcing an alliance for unity of purpose. Together, our experience in party management and our programmes to unite and motivate the rank and file will move the party forward. With John as Chairman, we will institutionalise unity and discipline,” he stated.

Mr Crabbe urged his supporters to vote for Mr Boadu, describing the arrangement as an alliance rather than a withdrawal from the contest.

“I will work side by side with him to see these programmes implemented, so that every member of our party feels heard, valued and motivated,” he said.

“To my supporters: a vote for John is a vote for me. This is not a stepping down. It is a stepping up. It is an alliance.”

The announcement follows an earlier post by Mr Boadu on X, formerly Twitter, indicating that Mr Crabbe had stepped down from the race and endorsed him.

Mr Crabbe’s subsequent signed statement, however, describes the arrangement as an alliance and says it is not a stepping down.

The two aspirants had been listed among the four candidates contesting the NPP National Chairmanship, alongside former National Chairman Paul Afoko and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.

The NPP is holding its National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, with 7,163 delegates expected to participate in the national executive elections.

The elections cover nine national executive positions, with voting taking place across 31 polling stations.

Results of the elections are expected to be announced after voting and the collation process.
