The Western Regional Police Command has launched investigations into a fatal shooting at a mining company site in Adelekezu near Dadwen in the Axim District, which claimed the life of a boy and caused significant damage to company property.
The incident occurred on Saturday, December 13, 2025. Police officers who responded to the scene found extensive destruction, including two burnt 4×4 SUVs and two tipper trucks. A pickup vehicle and a Toyota Land Cruiser were also damaged during the disturbance.

Preliminary investigations suggest that some youth from Adelekezu allegedly had a confrontation with private security personnel at the mining site while attempting to enter the company’s concession.
During the altercation, the youth reportedly tried to seize a pump-action gun from one of the security guards. In resisting the attempt, the guard allegedly fired a shot that struck the boy.

The victim was rushed to the Axim Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The death reportedly sparked anger among the local youth, who went on a rampage at the site, setting company property on fire and threatening to lynch workers. Police intervention led to the rescue of 11 workers from the scene.

Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. They include Gyenyame Owusu, 38; Matthew Asamah, 24; Nana Yaw, 15; Yaw Opoku, 16; and Kojo Agyei, 21. The suspects are being held for causing harm and unlawful damage.

The Western Regional Police Command has appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with ongoing investigations to ensure justice is served.
