Baba Iddrisu and Gideon Mensah will make their Ghana debuts tonight after being named in the Black Stars starting lineup for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against South Africa.

Baba will start in midfield while Mensah takes the left-back position against Bafana Bafana.

Baba, who plays for Spanish top-flight side Real Mallorca, was in the initial 23-man squad named by Kwesi Appiah.

For Mensah, who is based in Belgium and plays for Zulte Waregem, he came into the squad following an injury to Columbus Crew defender Harrison Afful.

Six players who started Ghana’s last competitive fixture four months ago against Tunisia at the Africa Cup of Nations are in the lineup.

They are captain Andre Ayew, his brother Jordan Ayew, goalkeeper Richard Ofori, defenders Kassim Nuhu and Andy Yiadom as well as midfielder Thomas Partey.

Kwesi Appiah is taking no chances against South Africans and has opted for his preferred 4-4-2 system.

Richard Ofori is in goal with Kassim Nuhu and Joseph Aidoo as centre-backs while Gideon Mensah and Andy Yiadom take charge of left and right back spots respectively.

The midfield will be anchored by Iddrisu Baba, Thomas Partey and Alfred Duncan with skipper Andre Ayew offering support.

The two attackers are Jordan Ayew and Emmanuel Boateng.
