About 400 transport volunteers from across the country were honoured in an awards night organised by the transport committee at the Legon Games Village for their dedication and hard work, which played a pivotal role in the successful organization of the 2023 African Games.
The quadrennial event was a gathering that saw 53 African nations compete in 29 sporting disciplines across 9 different locations.
These volunteers were instrumental in creating an inviting and supportive atmosphere. Their welcoming smiles, friendly gestures, and helpful assistance ensured all participants and visitors had a wonderful experience during their two-and-a-half-week stay in Accra.

The high attendance numbers at various venues, especially during the finals of the men’s and women’s games at the Cape Coast and Accra Sports Stadiums, underscored the effectiveness of the organizers' efforts.
However, it was the volunteers who truly were the backbone of the tournament, excelling in their various roles on the ground.

As a way of appreciating their work, 400 certificates signed by the Sports Minister, Honourable Mustapha Ussif and the President of the African Union were awarded to them.
Gold, Silver and bronze medals were also given to the top three volunteers and drivers for their outstanding performance.
"I'm happy to stand before and congratulate you for the wonderful results you have chalked. If what we saw at the stadium and closing ceremony is real then Ghana has done very well. I am happy and proud. You did it all," Chairman of the transport committee, Samson Deen said.
He also thanked the police service for ensuring that safety was provided for all who participated and watched the games.
"Dear IGP, your unwavering dedication to your work is truly commendable. Your commitment, passion, and tireless efforts elevate the standards of excellence in security to the transport management operations for the 13th African Games highly unprecedented in the games' history. Sir, your men showed class and commitment to duty," he added.
"Lastly, we send special praise to COP Suraj Mohammed, Baba Adamu Police Operations DG/MTTD for their constant participation and engagement at all times."
