American Olympic Gold Medalist Edwin Moses arrived in Ghana as a special guest for the African Games 2023 ahead of the opening ceremony on Friday, March 8.
He landed in the afternoon at the Kotoka International Airport and received a rousing welcome from the crowd gathered to greet him.
The gold medalist at the 1976 and 1984 Olympics, who discovered his Ghanaian heritage several years ago, expressed happiness to be back in Ghana on the country's Independence Day.
Edwin is a Board Member for Sports Equity Lab which aims to drive social justice and inclusion in sport through rigorous research and community events.
“I am here for the Africa Games and also for the Sports Equity Lab. We are doing some work here for sports equity. We are here to try to make a difference in the sport,” he told the media.
Edwin is gearing up to join other sports enthusiasts in unveiling a 10-meter tall installation, named ‘Victory in Unity,’ which honors six iconic sports personalities celebrated as ‘African Giants.’
This installation will be open from March 8-10th, allowing African Games visitors to add their photographs as a symbol of solidarity with the athletes.
