The Ghana Police Service in the Ahafo Region has arrested three suspects in connection with unlawful possession of firearms and an alleged plan to commit robbery.
The suspects, Johnson Mawutor, 26; Kelvin Ofori, 22; and Mawuli Dogba, 20, were apprehended following an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation by the Ahafo Regional Taskforce Patrol Team on the Ayomso–Goaso road late Sunday night.
According to the police in a statement, the patrol team was on routine duty at about 11:30 pm on February 22, 2026, when they spotted two men on an unregistered motorbike heading towards Ayomso near Goaso. On seeing the police from a distance, the suspects allegedly switched off the motorbike’s headlights and made a U-turn in an attempt to escape.

The officers gave chase and arrested the two, later identified as Mawutor and Ofori. A search conducted on them revealed an AK-47 assault rifle, serial number 68098152, loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition, concealed in a bag they were carrying.
The police subsequently led the suspects to their residences at Abro Danho, a suburb of Goaso, where a further search was conducted in Mawutor’s room.
Items retrieved included a Beretta Bruni pistol (Model 92), an NM157-1941 pistol, 30 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, four Motorola handsets, a Contixo F35 drone, a machete and a bayonet knife.
Preliminary investigations indicate that earlier that day, at about 3 pm, Johnson Mawutor allegedly instructed his cousin, Mawuli Dogba, to accompany a man identified as Mohammed-Adinan Ussif currently at large, to Techiman in the Bono East Region to collect a parcel on his behalf.
Police said that upon arriving in Techiman, Ussif reportedly entered a house and returned with a parcel concealed in a wine polyester bag. Dogba was then directed to board a Toyota Voxy minibus at the Goaso lorry station with the parcel.
Upon his arrival in Goaso, Mawutor and Ofori allegedly met him and took possession of the bag. It was later that same night, at about 11:30 pm, that the suspects were intercepted with the bag containing the AK-47 rifle and ammunition while heading towards Ayomso.
Investigations are ongoing to apprehend Mohammed-Adinan Ussif and any other individuals who may have been involved.
The police said the three suspects will be put before court and remanded to assist with ongoing investigations, while the retrieved exhibits have been retained.
The Ahafo Regional Police Command has assured residents of its commitment to maintaining a peaceful and safe environment and has urged the public to volunteer information to assist in the fight against crime.
