President Akufo-Addo has granted executive approval for the upgrade of selected districts to municipalities and municipalities to metropolises.
This was revealed in a statement from the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development (MLGRD) on Wednesday, December 4.
The development is in line with the legal provisions outlined in Act 936.
Among the municipalities elevated to metropolises are the Ho Municipal Assembly, Sunyani Municipal Assembly, New Juaben Municipal Assembly, and Wa Municipal Assembly.
Additionally, the Offinso North District Assembly, Birem North District Assembly, and Karaga District Assembly have been upgraded to municipalities.
The move aims to enhance administrative efficiency and local governance in these areas, aligning with the government's broader decentralization agenda.
